Zsófia Rácz

Zsófia Rácz (PhD 2005, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest) is an archaeologist and associate professor at the Institute of Archaeological Sciences, Eötvös Loránd University, specializing in the archaeology of the Migration period. She wrote her dissertation on Avar period goldsmith's graves, which was published in 2014 in Mainz. In recent years, she has participated in various international projects focusing on early medieval material culture, trade, and mobility. In 2020, she launched her NRDI project, "Subsistence Strategies in the Hun and Gepidic Periods in the Carpathian Basin." Since 2020, she has also been a senior researcher in the ERC Synergy project HistoGenes, participating in the archaeogenetic evaluation of Migration period cemeteries from Hungary. Her main research interest at present is social structure and kinship in the Carpathian Basin during the 5th–8th centuries AD.
