Balázs Gyuris

Balázs Gyuris (MSc, molecular biologist, archaeogeneticist) is a junior research fellow at the Institute of Archaeogenomics, HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities, and a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Biology, Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest). He primarily investigates two research fields: the genetic history of the Volga–Ural region from the Iron Age to the Early Middle Ages, and the Avar-period Southern Transdanubia, with particular emphasis on the Kölked-Feketekapu site, which is the central topic of his doctoral dissertation. He is currently working on the analysis of several hundred ancient DNA samples excavated at this site as part of the HistoGenes ERC project. The aim of the research is to uncover the complex social structure of the community through the combined application of genetic and bioarchaeological methods, in close collaboration with experts from various related disciplines.
